The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital Safety Store is the first of its kind in Iowa, serving families across the state and committed to making your child’s world a safer place. Open to anyone, the Safety Store offers a wide range of child safety products designed to prevent injuries both inside and outside the home.
Our inventory includes car seats, bike helmets, swaddles, and various child-proofing items, as well as products for adults such as bike helmets, UV protective apparel, and postpartum items. Trained Safety Store educators are available to guide families in selecting the appropriate products and provide education on proper installation and maintenance, including car seat installation, safe sleep practices, bike helmet fitting, and baby proofing.
The Safety Store also addresses the critical issue of unintentional injury, which is the leading cause of death and disability for children from birth to 18 years of age, by offering affordable products that cater to individual needs, including unique items for children with special healthcare needs.
